Accomplishment
In 2005, the Association began to fundraise in earnest and as a result of intensive work in the field we can proudly present the following accomplishments:
1. Five after-school classes and in which 45 students participated for the whole year.
Changes and successes:
The project has been running since September 2006. Up till now the project made very important changes among pupils and parents.
The changes are:
• The parents go to school to follow up their daughters' advancement at schools.
• The pupils gain more and more self-confidence in the project and in the school.
According to school teacher testimony: "I feel that there is a change among the Bedouin pupils in the class, they speak freely, this thing was not before, and they wonderfully integrate with other pupils in the class. I would like to mention that there is an increase in their marks, which encourage them to be more active in the class".
• The participants succeeded to raise their self esteem.
• They start to think of their educational future.
• More and more people request from the staff to enroll their daughters in the project.
2. The participants improved their average at school.
3. We succeeded to changing the attitudes of the parents which resulted in them sending their daughters and children to the project.
4. We formed strategic partnership with seven foundations.
5. We succeeded to expand the number of the participants from 60 youth and still growing.
6. We succeeded to recruit about 750 books for local library.
7. Advocacy: 90 people received help to overcome obstacles relating to bureaucracy, language and prejudice within the Health Care, Educational and Social Security Systems.
BAEHD is running the Girls' Educational Empowerment Project for the second year. We thank very much the American Embassy in Israel for its generous support for the project's continuation.
