· Violence Prevention
through Sport
Due
to the lack of educational and cultural frameworks, hope, and a positive self-image,
about twelve percent of the youth in Taibeh is dropping out of school and developing
violent and criminal behavior. This program is designed for forty Bedouin youth at
risk between the ages of twelve and sixteen. Through sports, we build their skills
and self-confidence in order to strengthen and encourage them to stay in school and
to channel their energies into positive outlets that will keep them away from criminal
behavior.
· Women's
Sewing Project
The Bedouin
Association for Education and Health Development seeks
to empower the Bedouin women of Taibeh; drawing upon their cultural values and skills
to create a sense of solidarity and possibility, to affect positive change in the
social attitude toward women, and to facilitate women's entry into the labor market. The
Women's Sewing Project will utilize traditional knitting and crocheting techniques
to empower them through developing skills in marketing and production and encouraging
social interaction, which in turn will increase women's social and financial independence.
